The frenzy of period dramas is taking over not just Bollywood but Marathi films as well. Various films have been made in the recent times, giving us a glimpse of our rich history and historical figures. The one coming up next is titled Shahu Chhatrapati. The film will be based on the life of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, who worked towards the upliftment of Dalits, Bahujan Samaj and other backward classes. 

Shahu Chhatrapati is presented by Jitendra Awhad and based on decades of research by Dr. Jaysingrao Pawar. The film will be helmed by young filmmaker Varun Sukhraj. Rajarshi Shahu did a lot for the farmers, students, traders, poor women and Dalits in his time during the British rule. Through this period drama, audience will get a chance to see the Maharashtra of that time. The film will release in multiple languages.
